Our experts by experience and spokespeople

Informing Discovery’s priorities

Interviewing

Quality Consultants – people we support and also employ – are part of interview panels for all management and other senior roles across Discovery. They help us employ people with the right personal values and therefore have a substantial influence on our organisation’s culture.

Induction

Quality Consultants and Family Consultants are part of our induction process for new colleagues. They share their personal experience of what good and bad support really feels like. Induction is the most important moment in any colleague’s career at Discovery.

47
Across Dimensions Group (including Discovery,) 47 people we support and family members were paid to be ‘experts by experience,’ helping us interview, induct, quality check and resolve conflict in 2024.

Quality Checking

Our Quality Consultants and Family Consultants play a vital role in maintaining exceptional care standards at Discovery. They join our internal quality assurance team during regular reviews of the quality of a person’s life and home, bringing a wealth of experience and insight.

Their expertise often helps identify improvements that others might miss. Working closely with managers, they ensure we maintain high CQC ratings. We’re proud of the difference they make—because great care starts with great quality.

Explore opportunities to join our team and help us deliver outstanding support every day.

Resolving conflict

Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and during challenging times, a strong, trusting relationship between our support teams and the family or loved ones of the person we support is essential.

When that trust is strained or broken, it can make situations even harder. That’s why our Family Consultants—all of whom have a loved one with a learning disability—play such an important role.

They help bridge any gap, rebuild trust, and ensure we learn and improve from every experience.

This role is a vital part of our support, making a real difference to the lives of the people we care for and their families.

Our spokespeople

Our press office and spokespeople are there to support journalists with delivering expert assessment of news stories from the people who will know best – those receiving support, their loved ones, those who deliver support day-in, day-out alongside senior figures in the sector.
