Right-Sized Support: The Right Help at the Right Time
At Discovery, one of our core principles is providing right-sized support—tailored to your needs, at the right time, and in the right way. This approach ensures you receive the support you need while promoting your independence and reducing reliance on paid support over time.
Right-sized support looks different for everyone. For example:
- A person with profound and multiple learning disabilities may need intensive, ongoing support.
- A young adult leaving home for the first time may need higher initial levels of support to ensure a smooth transition before reducing to enable them to live their own life with greater independence.
But the principles remain the same:
- We support you to gain independence, in line with your strengths and abilities.
- We keep you safe, always.
- Wherever possible, we reduce the amount of support you need over time, helping you live the ordinary, independent life of your choosing.
This approach also makes the best use of core and shared hours, delivering support where it matters most. In many cases, it can even reduce or eliminate costs for local authorities and NHS partners—while improving outcomes for you.
