Every splash builds confidence

This story celebrates Nigel and the power of encouragement, shared experiences and believing in what’s possible.

Nigel shared that he wanted to learn how to swim, and with the support of Operations Director Keinan Cooper and the team, that wish quickly turned into action. An opportunity came up to attend a summer pool party in Street, and it became the perfect first step. With support in the pool, Nigel’s excitement was clear as he jumped up and down in the water, enjoying being back in the pool for the first time in a long while.

Inspired by this experience, Nigel asked if swimming could become part of his regular support day. A visit to the local pool followed, where he warmed up with enthusiasm before learning how to kick his legs while holding the pool ledge. Building on this, Nigel decided he wanted to try swimming. Holding on for support, he kicked his legs as they travelled to the middle of the pool and back, repeating this again and again. Each length brought more confidence, and Nigel was incredibly proud of what he achieved.

The journey continued on holiday at Bowleaze Cove in Weymouth, where aqua Zumba was on offer at the caravan park. Nigel was keen to join in, and in the pool he confidently followed the actions while holding a supportive hand. Afterwards, his sense of achievement shone through as he happily shared with others how much fun he had.

Nigel’s swimming journey is still growing, with continued focus on building confidence and skills so he can swim independently in the future. Each step, splash and smile is a reminder that with the right support, encouragement and belief, new experiences can become lasting achievements.
