Cliff View is a distinctive home, with two self-contained flats at the front that share a lounge, offering both independence and companionship. When a long-standing lady sadly had to move on after an accident, the team focused on finding someone who could settle and thrive.
Kat was local to Cheddar but needed a gentle, reassuring approach. In the early months, she avoided GP appointments and felt anxious about everyday life. The team guided her step by step, rebuilding trust and helping her regain confidence. Gradually, Kat began attending appointments again, managing her health more independently, and engaging with life around her.
Kat’s love for animals quickly became a source of joy and purpose. With encouragement, she returned to a small animal sanctuary she enjoyed and started a new adventure: hatching chicks and ducklings using an incubator. Most returned to the sanctuary, but two ducks stayed – Quackers and Daisy – hand-reared by Kat. She even installed cameras so she could check on them outside, though she still enjoys bringing Quackers into the main house to greet everyone. Thanks to her care, Quackers even uses a puppy pad, a testament to Kat’s dedication and patience.
Trust-building has also been central to Kat’s progress. Locality Manager, Liz Perry holds Cat’s guinea pig, Sausage Roll, which is precious to Kat, helping Kat feel safe and understood. These moments create a bond between Kat and Liz, helping Kat trust the team and grow in confidence, making everyday life more secure and enjoyable.
Today, Kat is settled, healthier, and visibly happier. Her family see the difference, and those around her witness a woman rediscovering her strengths and joy.
Alongside the ducks and guinea pig, Kat is looking ahead. She dreams of having her own dog one day, and while that journey is gradual, it remains a bright goal that keeps her motivated.
Sometimes, progress comes quietly. And sometimes, it arrives on webbed feet – with two ducks called Quackers and Daisy, and a little guinea pig in tow.
