Generosity gives Casey her wheels back

What began as an unfortunate accident has turned into a heartwarming story of kindness and teamwork.
Life storySupported Employment

While travelling home from a supported employment placement, Casey was sadly knocked off her bike, leaving it damaged beyond repair. The bike wasn’t just a mode of transport – it was her lifeline, helping her travel independently to and from placement and move confidently around town.

During a Steering Group Meeting, Casey’s situation was raised, and there was a shared desire to see how she could be supported. That’s when Matron of Bridgwater Community Hospital, Peter Harvey stepped in with an idea. Peter mentioned he knew someone who refurbishes bikes and distributes them to people in need, both locally and worldwide.

Peter quickly connected Mitchell with Anthony from Prodigal Bikes, who was more than happy to help. Anthony generously offered Casey a refurbished bike, free of charge, along with an emergency repair kit valued at £100 to ensure she was fully equipped going forward.

To make this possible, Peter also reached out to The League of Friends to ask whether they could support with the cost of the emergency repair kit. Without hesitation, they agreed.

The timing couldn’t have been better. With Christmas just weeks away and finances often under extra pressure, this incredible support restored Casey’s independence and ensured she could continue attending her placements without worry.

Casey was absolutely over the moon with her new bike and expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their kindness and generosity.
